College Credit Plus Physics Credential Program

About the Credential Program in Physics

This program in teaching Physics is designed to provide the graduate-level credentials to allow high school teachers currently holding an Ohio AYA license in physics to teach college-level courses in their high schools through College Credit Plus (CCP). In addition, teachers completing this program will meet the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) standards for eligibility to teach courses in Ohio public community colleges and universities. The program can be extended to a Master of Science in Teaching (Physics) degree.

Admission Requirements and Process

Secondary physics teachers who wish to pursue the teaching credential/certificate must complete the following steps:

  • Apply through Wright State's Graduate School. The options for applying to the CCP certificate and credential programs are in the online application.
  • Submit proof of current Ohio AYA License in Integrated Science
  • Submit an official transcript showing the award of a Master’s degree in any field, unless from Wright State
  • Submit two letters of reference and statement of purpose

The application form must be completed with all required documents attached. The form when completed must be signed and dated. All application materials become the property of the Graduate School and cannot be returned.

Program Requirements

Students must complete the following program of courses.

Required:  

  • PHY 6510: Electricity and Magnetism
  • PHY 6600: Quantum Mechanics I
  • PHY 6610: Quantum Mechanics II
  • PHY 6830: Statistical Mechanics
  • PHY 5510: Advanced Physics Lab II (2 credits)
  • PHY 6699: Evidenced-based Pedagogy for Teachers (1 credit)
  • PHY 6990: Introduction to Modern Physics

Total: 18 semester credit hours
