Lake Campus Experiences Total Solar Eclipse

CELINA, OH - On Monday, April 8, 2024 the Lake Campus of Wright State University was within the band of totality for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. Hundreds of faculty, staff, students and visitors enjoyed the historical event on the south lawn of campus. Visitors came from all over the country, with many of them stating they chose the Lake Campus because of the waterfront property and educational experience the campus offered.

The afternoon began with presentations from Lake Campus professors Chuck Ciampalgio, Ph.D. and Dane Daniel, Ph.D. who provided information on solar eclipses as well as historical stories and facts from past eclipses.

Spectators were given a 360 degree view of the 2024 Total Eclipse on the large lakefront lawn. On the campus lawn you could find eclipse viewers sprawled out with lawn chairs and blankets for the historical event. They were using special eclipse glasses, telescopes and homemade devices to get the best view of the once-in-a-lifetime event. From the shore spectators could see pelicans floating on Grand Lake St. Marys, boats buzzing by and fireworks being set off during totality. The next Total Solar Eclipse in Ohio will not be until 2099.
