CELINA, OH - Wright State University–Lake Campus, the Western Ohio Educational Foundation (WOEF), Celina City Schools, and Grand Lake Health/Premier Health North YMCA have announced a collaborative project to build two soccer fields near the YMCA. The project, which is expected to be completed in late spring, will provide Celina City Schools soccer program with a much-needed facility while also enhancing the community's recreational offerings.
"We are excited to partner with the Lake Campus, YMCA, and Celina City Schools to create new soccer fields for our community," said Jeff Schwieterman, President of the WOEF Board of Directors. "This is a great opportunity for collaboration to support the needs of our students and residents."
The new fields will be located on land adjacent to the YMCA and will include a regulation-sized soccer field and a practice field. The fields will be designed to meet the needs of both youth and adult soccer players.
"This project is just one example of how community relationships can create opportunities for students. This project began when Phil Metz approached our associate dean Mark Cubberley looking for a location for soccer fields and we were excited to collaborate,” said Andrea Faber, Vice Provost, Lake Campus.
"Celina City Schools is excited to partner with the Lake Campus, WOEF, and the YMCA to build these new soccer fields," said Phil Metz, Facilities Director for Celina City Schools. “These fields will provide a temporary location for Celina’s soccer programs to compete and/or practice for the next couple of years while our new 7-12 high school/middle school is under construction. The fields will eventually be relocated on the HS/MS campus. This project will provide a great asset to our soccer program and the entire community."
The project began in November and the fields are expected to be ready for use by mid to late summer 2024.
