Lake Campus confers 148 degrees at the 46th Annual Commencement

CELINA, OH – Wright State University – Lake Campus held its 46th Annual Commencement ceremony on Friday evening, April 27, 2018. Degrees conferred upon the 148 members of the Class of 2018 included 49 associate degrees and 99 bachelor’s degrees. Lake Campus Dean & Chief Administrative Officer Jay Albayyari presided over the ceremony and Dr. Cheryl B. Schrader, President of Wright State University provided a commencement address.

In her address, President Schrader acknowledged that getting to the finish line of graduation doesn’t just happen, and quite often, obstacles are in the way.

“For all of tonight’s graduates, I know that you did not cross this finish line without sheer determination and a lot of hard work. Many of you had to juggle much more than just going to class and studying. Perhaps you were working full-time or raising a family,” President Schraider said.

Sixty  graduating students participated in the ceremony, and Tiffany Ricketts, of Rockford, spoke on behalf of the graduates. Ricketts earned a Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies in Agriculture and achieved a near-perfect GPA in her studies and was nominated by the Lake Campus faculty to share her story.

In her remarks, Ricketts said, “I could not have asked for a better place to attend college, and I am so thankful for the opportunities that I have had while at Lake Campus. It did not take long for us to figure out that Wright State Lake Campus was exactly where we belonged.”

Gretchen Rentz, Coordinator of Development and Community Relations, welcomed the graduates to the Lake Campus Alumni Network. Dr. Dane Daniel, Pianist and Associate Professor of History, and Amber Daniel, Adjunct Faculty, co-directed the Lake Campus Glee Club in providing music for the evening. The Mercer County Firefighters Honor Guard presented the colors for the event, and Adjunct Faculty Jodi Pierstorff provided sign language interpreting for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
