Gr8 Vines Winery

One business where Lake Campus Alumni work is showcased every day is Gr8 (pronounced great) Vines Winery in downtown St. Mary’s. A veteran-owned business that started as a hobby and expanded into a full winery in October 2020. Andy and Terri Liming take pride in their winery that pays homage to the military. With their Wall of Heroes, where every veteran who has visited signs the wall, and every wine and cider offered is named after something related to the Marine Corps or the military. The "8" in Gr8 represents Andy, Terri, and their 6 kids. They are proud that everything they sell is made in-house. Gr8 Vines is a two-person show, Andy and Terri. The only part of the business that isn’t on-site is the vineyard. They currently offer 15 regular wines, 2 specialty wines, and 12 hard ciders, with 6-8 rotating seasonally. They also offer rotating choices of wine slushies to enjoy the winery on the go. The Limings are proud to support downtown St. Marys and allow customers to bring in food from their downtown neighboring restaurants.

Since the Lake Campus is close to St. Marys, in 2018, Andy reached out to the Lake Campus in hopes of getting some help with the wine bottle label designs. He began discussing this with Teresa Richter, Graphic & Digital Design Coordinator and Senior Lecturer. This became the Fall 2018 Branding Course design project. Each student had to create designs that encompassed the Gr8 Vines branding. Andy and Terri were amazed to receive not 1 but 20 individual concepts and designs. The Limings were then tasked with one of the hardest parts: choosing a design from among all the great submissions. Ultimately, Andy and Terri chose Monica Teeter’s (B.T.A.S. 2021) design for their wine labels and Breanna Schulze’s (B.T.A.S. 2020) design for the cider labels.

Teresa Richter had great things to say about the experience working with Gr8 Vines Winery:

"The GR8 Vines Winery project stands as a powerful example of the real-world impact created through the Graphic Design program at Wright State University–Lake Campus. In our Fall 2018 branding course, students partnered directly with a local, family-owned business whose identity is rooted in both family and service—the ‘8’ in GR8 representing their blended family, alongside a proud military background that inspired the character of their brand. Students were challenged to translate that meaningful story into a compelling, market-ready visual identity. Through thoughtful research, creative exploration, and hands-on execution, they produced professional-level work that extended beyond the classroom and into the community. Seeing Monica Teeters’ design selected as the primary label, alongside Breanna Schulze’s secondary label, was especially rewarding—it not only brought a family’s vision to life, but also showcased the strength of our program in preparing students to create purposeful, impactful design for real clients."

With Andy and Terri both working full-time, the winery is open Thursday and Friday, 5 pm to 9 pm. And Saturdays, 2 to 9 pm. They offer a variety of events throughout the year, including singo, and invite food trucks to the winery.

We welcomed Gr8 Vines Winery on campus for our 1st annual Wine Festival in June of 2025. They were proud to share the story of the creation of their wine labels during the event.
