Agriculture Study Tour Visits Midwest

CELINA, OH – Over the summer, Lake Campus students and faculty embarked on an agriculture study tour of the Midwest. The tour gave students an in-depth look at various agronomic, animal science, and agribusiness aspects that allow students to get a deeper understanding of the agriculture industry.

The tour was led by agriculture professors Greg McGlinch and Aubrey Jaqueth.

“Students saw how much time and effort goes into the research and development of crop production, animal nutrition and agribusiness,” said McGlinch.

The group of ten students and two professors made several stops throughout the Midwest during their 3-day trip which included a tour of Beck's Seed in Atlanta, IN; a crop tour in Casey, IL; a visit to the Purina Animal Nutrition Center in Summit, MO; a stop at Grant Farms in St. Louis, MO and final stop at Melvin Place Lock and Dams in Alton, IL.

Cameron Romer, of Ft. Recovery, chose to go on the trip to get the opportunity to experience a collegiate study tour and earn college credit at the same.

“My favorite part of the trip was touring the Purina Animal Nutrition Center and observing what feed products Purina is developing for livestock,” said Romer.

Alicia Knapke, of Coldwater, is majoring in agriculture at the Lake Campus and works at MVP Dairy in Celina, OH.

“I love educating the public on agriculture, so being able to view how others share their story with consumers will make me a better agriculturist,” said Knapke.

The Lake Campus of Wright State University offers an associate and bachelor’s degree in agriculture. The program includes hands-on learning, a variety of course options and internship opportunities.
