Why Choose Police Academy?

The Wright State University—Lake Campus Police Academy is in compliance with the standards set by the State of Ohio and by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. Upon completion, cadets are qualified to take the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission Test. Successful completion allows the student to become a law enforcement officer in any jurisdiction in Ohio, and also earn credit in the associate of applied science degree.

State certification as a law enforcement officer requires completion of a State Certified Police Academy, Physical Fitness Test, and a Final Examination.

Careers

Cadets who graduate from the police academy and pass the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission Test are licensed to work in any local police department or sheriff's department in the state of Ohio..

Real-World Experience

The Police Academy is an applied program designed to equip you with the skills that will allow you to succeed as a law enforcement officer in Ohio. All skills taught are designed to meet the standards set by the state and the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.

Academics and Curriculum

Police cadets can choose to earn college credit by enrolling as a Wright State student and pursuing the Associate of Applied Science: Law Enforcement Concentration or the Bachelor of Arts in Crime and Justice Studies to further enhance your skills.

Admission 

Are you interested in becoming a police officer? The Wright State University—Lake Campus Police Academy at the Wright State Lake Campus is now taking applications. 

• The application deadline is July 21, 2024
• Classes start August 19, 2024, and end April 1, 2025
• You can earn college credit while in the academy
• Financial aid is available
