Lake Campus Launches Cross Country Program

CELINA, OH - Wright State University – Lake Campus Athletics is excited to announce the launch of a Cross Country program for the 2023-2024 season. The regional campus of Wright State University will offer the opportunity for runners of all levels to compete at the collegiate level.

The campus is committed to bringing more opportunities for student athletes back to our campus. Studies have shown that participating in college athletics can improve academic performance, increase overall satisfaction with the college experience, and provide valuable life lessons that can be applied to a range of careers.

“Participating in college athletics help students develop a sense of teamwork, leadership, and time management. It can also help you build meaningful relationships with your fellow athletes, coaches, and the campus community,” said Lake Campus Athletic Coordinator Angie Clayton.

In the inaugural season, the Lakers will be led by Head Coach Dave Benson. As a chemistry professor at the Lake Campus, Coach Benson is excited to build on the relationship he has with students and give them an environment where students can be part of a team, compete and create life-long memories.

Coach Benson has a long history with sport of Cross Country as successful runner in high school and college. In high school he was a state-qualifier in track and cross country as well as earning all-conference several times. Coach Benson ran collegiately at the University of Mount Union.

This upcoming season the Lakers will compete in invitationals throughout the Ohio area. Athletes will have the opportunity to compete against a variety of universities, high caliber runners and receive team and individual honors.
